The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey provides the region with integrated transportation, trade services and operates the facilities of three major regional airports, interstate traffic through four bridges and two tunnels, a bus terminal, a bus station, the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) rapid rail transit system, the Hoboken-lower Manhattan ferry service, and New York-New Jersey port facilities and the World Trade Center Site and Transportation Hub.
This project is under a multiyear on-demand contract to perform maintenance dredging of 30 different wharf berths at Port Newark, the Elizabeth Marine Terminal, and the Port Jersey Marine Terminals. Work includes dewatering, processing, and transporting dredged material to a UTEX/380 disposal facility in Staten Island, NY, and related work.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- The Port Authority has construction projects planned and ongoing around which CASHMAN conducts its work.
- Sediments are excavated using a 14-yd3 cable arm, environmental “clamshell” style bucket.
- Sediments are stabilized with Portland cement for upland placement as beneficial re-use material.
- Material is dewatered and processed in accordance with the water quality criteria for New York and New Jersey and the Acceptable Use Determination (AUD) issued by New Jersey Dept. of Environmental Protection.
- CASHMAN dredged 170,200 yd3 of upland material in 2016; the 2016 work was completed in 62 days with a dredging and processing rate of 2,745 yd3 per day.
- In 2017, CASHMAN dredged ~80,000 yd3 of material.
- Based on Scheduled Work Orders, CASHMAN plans to dredge 60,000-100,000 yd3 of material in 2018.
