Cashman was contracted by USACE, Jacksonville District to perform maintenance dredging at various locations along the St. Johns River, from Bar Cut‐3 through Cut‐9, to a depth of 40 feet plus an allowable 2‐foot over depth. Material resulting from this work was offloaded and placed upland into Cell A of Buck Island, ~12 miles away from the dredge site.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Over 300,000 yd3 of shoal material was removed from the St. Johns River utilizing the trailing suction hopper dredge, Atchafalaya.
  • The Atchafalaya transferred material from its onboard hopper through the self-emptying pump-out system to a booster barge. The booster pump made the final material push to Buck Island for placement.
  • Incidental work includes endangered species and turbidity monitoring.
  • The project was successfully completed on time with zero safety incidents.
